Narrator 3

Yes, that's right: transport.

Transport means a way of moving people or things from place to place

Narrator 5

In this assembly, we will tell you all about transport in history and how it has changed over time.

Narrator 6

The earliest known form of transport is walking. The average human walks about three miles per hour. It may not be fast, but walking is a great way to exercise

Narrator 7

We know that humans were using boats in around 8,000 BC. The world's oldest boat was found in the Netherlands. It is a dugout made from a hollowed tree trunk.

Narrator 8

In 6,000 BC, we know that hunters and warriors used skis to travel on icy and snowy ground.

Narrator 9

Up until this point, other modes of transport did not exist. However, one amazing invention changed the way we travel. Can you guess what it was?

Narrator 10

In around 3,500 BC, humans looked carefully at the wheel they used to shape and mould pottery. They decided that the wheel could be added to carts to make them move. The Egyptians used wheels to pull carriages. One or two people would be pulled by a horse.
