School Assembly on Ramadan - KS1 & KS2

It also goes through why Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan, the rules of the fasting, who is exempt from the fast and also the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr after the sighting of the new moon.
This unit also includes a short story about all the different ways a boy who helps his Muslim friend during Ramadan by being kind and thoughtful.

Story: Ramadhan Story (Extract)
Alfie's best friend was Abdi. They had everything in common. They both like playing football, they both supported Arsenal, they both absolutely hated fish fingers and they both had really annoying older sisters! The only difference between the two was that Abdi was Muslim.
Alfie and Abdi lived next door to each other and went to the same school. They both lived for Saturdays when they spent the whole morning playing football for their local club and then walking back to Abdi's house where they spent the afternoon playing video games while enjoying treats from Abdi's mum's treat cupboard! Holidays were the best when they could just have lots of fun!
The school had broken up for half term and Alfie and Abdi were walking back from football
when Abdul told Alfie that he was fasting.
"Fasting? What's that?" asked Alfie.
"It's when Muslims don't eat or drink between sunrise and sunset!" replied Abdi. "My mum
didn't want me to fast �coz I am younger but I wanted to. It makes me feel older!"
