"The importance of having a healthy mind" - Extract

Jimmy was feeling very sad and so worried that he could hardly sleep at nights. It all started since his dog went missing. It had been a few days now and he wished he could hold Tubs to stroke his black and white fur and hear his bark again. Tubs always seemed to know when Jimmy was coming home even before he got home and found him panting, barking and wagging his tail as soon as he opened the front door. Home wasn't the same. It was too quiet and everywhere Jimmy went, it reminded him of his dog. Horrible thoughts about him kept Jimmy up at nights and stopped him from concentrating on anything.

His best friend Lennard had moved away to another city and school wasn't the same either. He hadn't bothered to make a new best friend and so at play times, Jimmy just walked around on his own. Mrs green, his teacher, had emailed his mum to say that Jimmy wasn't eating his food at lunch time and seemed very upset all the time.

The next day, Mrs Green was doing a lesson on having a healthy mind. "We all know about having a healthy body," she said, "but what about our minds?" Jimmy had never thought about his mind. In fact, he didn't even know what the mind was! "Our mind, is the bit of our body that thinks and feels and if we don't look after it, we end up feeling very bad!" she said. "Just like we can keep our bodies healthy and so stop ourselves from becoming ill, we need to keep our minds healthy.
