Seven Continents Class Assembly - Extract

Extract 1

NARRATOR 2

Ok. Africa, you're first in the alphabet. Let's start with you

AFRICA

Sounds like a plan.

The other continents go and sit down in their seats, grumbling

AFRICA

I am the best continent. Human life started in me. And people have fought for centuries over my resources.

AFRICA and the NARRATORS sit down. 3 children come on stage with a map.

CHILD 1

We'd like that bit, please. It's got all the diamonds.

CHILD 2

Hmm. Ok. That'd be all right if I could have the gold mines.

CHILD 3

What about me? What do I get?

CHILD 1

What about up here?

CHILD 2

Oh yes there's oil.

CHILD 3

Ok, that sounds good to me.

Extract 2

ASIA sits again. The THREE CHILDREN enter the stage again carrying paper, silk and gunpowder.

CHILD 1

I've invented this stuff. It's easy to make in lots of different colours. It's flat and white. I'm calling it paper. We could write on it.

CHILD 2

That's brilliant. Look at what I've discovered. We have these caterpillars, and they produce this material. You can weave it to make beautiful clothing, and I call it silk.

CHILD 3

That's very useful. Look at what I've made. It's this black powder. Be careful with it, though. It explodes if you get it hot. It will make amazing fireworks, and you could also use it in wars.

CHILD 1

I think we could trade these things with other people in the world.

CHILD 2

Yes. Let's make a route from China to Europe. Then everyone can come and trade with us.
