Story: Eid-ul-Fitr story (Extract)

"Mum! Have you heard yet? Has the moon been sighted? Is it Eid tomorrow?" Tara asked excitedly.

"No news yet!" her mum answered as she continued cooking but Tara could tell even mum was impatient and wanted to know!

Every year, on the night before Eid, they all packed their bags and went to stay at their gran's house where all their cousins got together and celebrated the sighting of the new moon. They would all bring their clothes and sleeping bags so that they could have a slumber party, play board games and charades and stay up till very late! One of Tara's aunts was an amazing henna artist and could draw anything with a henna cone. It would always be very festive with all the grown-ups preparing in the kitchen.

It had been a very long day! She had helped her mum do all the shopping and wrap all the sweet treats for Eid. All the cases were packed and they were waiting for her dad to come home from the mosque.

"Perhaps I can look out of the window and spot it!" she said laughed. "You can try!" mum laughed back.

Her best bit of Eid day waking up with her cousins and wearing her new clothes. Everyone went for Eid prayers and after everyone got back, a big feast was prepared for lunch and there was general merriment. After that they would go and visit all their other relatives. They all got their money from the grown-ups and Tara was desperately hoping she was going to get enough Eid money this year so she could get roller skates.
